S.T.A.R.T. PROGRAM

S.T.A.R.T. Unit

The Substance Tobacco Alcohol Resistance Training (S.T.A.R.T.) Unit focuses on providing quality prevention education to students within Lincoln County. S.T.A.R.T. is a comprehensive and adaptable substance abuse prevention curriculum designed for fifth and sixth-grade students.
Over nine classes, students learn about critical topics facing today’s youth, including tobacco, alcohol, illicit drugs, bullying, cyberbullying, peer pressure, and responsible citizenship. The program is led by our School Resource Officers, who use interactive learning strategies such as lectures, writing prompts, group exercises, and peer-led discussions.
Each lesson focuses on decision-making skills and empowers students to confidently express the program’s motto:
“Start by saying NO!”
Unlike other prevention programs, S.T.A.R.T. was created by SCCPD law enforcement professionals with contributions from the St. Charles County Health Department, Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Digital Futures Initiative, and other community partners. In 2022, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office proudly partnered with SCCPD to bring the S.T.A.R.T. program to all Lincoln County school districts.
